It was at least in part an ego thing. The image of himself as being a burden on anyone, even as the Dark One, felt alarming to him. He didn't see himself surfing on anyone's couch in many situations, either. And while he didn't imagine someone like Hopper putting anyone in that kind of position, there was still some hesitance to get close to it.

Providing was comfortable. Centering.

And, well. There was no one left to provide for. It made him feel aimless.

And as though to punctuate that he stepped in near the sink to take over cleaning. Especially any utensils he would need to use again later.
